WHO WE ARE- Meet the Directors

Elaine Oliver and Willie Oliver are directors of the Department of Family Ministries for the Seventh-day Adventist Church World Headquarters.  An ordained minister, Willie holds a PhD in Family Sociology, and masters’ degrees in Pastoral Counseling and Sociology.  He is the former Director of Family Ministries for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America, the Atlantic Union Conference, and the Greater New York Conference.  Elaine holds a master’s degree in Higher Education with concentrations in student development and counseling.  For the past two decades she served as an administrator at Barnard College, Columbia University, Atlantic Union College, and Washington Adventist University, primarily in the areas of financial aid and admissions.  She also served as a marriage and family consultant for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America for the last 15 years.

The Olivers regularly conduct marriage conferences, retreats and relationship seminars.  They are the founders of From This Day Forward one-daymarriage conferences, Journey Toward Intimacy marriage retreats, and authors of From This Day Forward column in Message magazine.  Their “keeping it real” presentation style keeps them in high demand nationally and internationally.  They have conducted marriage conferences, retreats, and relationship workshops across the United States, Canada, Bermuda, as well as in Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, and South America.

The Olivers have been married for 26 years and are the parents of two young adult children, Jessica and Julian.  In their spare time they enjoy taking long walks, beach vacations, gardening, exotic cuisines, and spending time with family and friends.
