Kathleen Sowards
Kathleen was born in Washington, DC. She has lived and worked in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin and Maryland.
Kathy graduated from DuVal Senior High School in the early 70’s and, after attending a year of college, put her education on hold to marry and raise her family.
She has three grown children and four grandchildren. Her oldest son is a civilian firefighter at Grissom Air Base in Indiana. He and his wife have two toddlers, a son and daughter. Kathy’s second son is an associate pastor with emphasis in Youth Ministry in West Virginia. They also have two toddlers, a son and daughter. Kathy’s daughter, her youngest, is in her last year at North Florida University, studying to be a dietician.
Some favorite times enjoyed by Kathy and her husband Bob have been spent canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping and dog training.
Kathy enjoys sewing, crafts, reading, traveling and working with her “empty nest” Doberman Pinchers, Jordan and Jenna.
She serves the department as editorial assistant, carrying administrative duties as well as helping to produce the various departmental resources. Kathy finds working in Family Ministries to be a blessing and is delighted God is using her to help families and serve the world church.
Anabell Barrientos
Anabell was born in Oroville, California. When she was still a baby, her parents moved to Montemorelos University in Mexico where her father finished his studies in theology. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to El Salvador in Central America. Later, she attended the Seventh-day Adventist University in Alajuela, Costa Rica for 4 years and received her Bachelor's degree in Education (Teaching).
Her family moved back to the United States in 2001 where her father is currently the pastor at the Takoma Park & Metro DC (Maryland) Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to her full time position as a secretarial assistant in the General Conference Family Ministries Department, God has given her the opportunity to teach Spanish part time at Washington Adventist University.
Anabell has a younger brother, Jose, whom she considers a present to her since he was born on her birthday, February 15. Jose serves as youth pastor for the Seventh-day Adventist Community Praise Center in Northern Virginia. Her mother also works at the General Conference in Adventist Risk Management. Anabell is very thankful to the Lord to have returned to her native country, the U.S.A., and to have the opportunity to work in this wonderful department.
Outside her work and church activities, Anabell enjoys playing soccer, listening to music and meeting new friends. She would like to learn French and Italian and complete her Master's degree in Business Administration.
